This month, special guests will facilitate our political education component:
Members of CPE/CEP (Coalition for Public Education/Coalición por la Educación Pública) will present on their fight for community control of schools and against mayoral control. They will have just conducted a public tribunal to put on trial perpetrators of education crimes, with the aim of creating legitimate alternative institutions that model a just, anti-racist, vision of education governance.
We are excited to welcome our allies at CPE/CEP. We look forward to finding ways for educators to struggle along side communities of color in the fight to end racist, top-down, institutionalized disenfranchisement of families, community and educators from our own PUBLIC education system.
Check out CPE/CEP’s call for a People’s Board of Education in the PBE Principles (draft) and info about the trial here
Also at the meeting:
We will view a trailer for Precious Knowledge, a documentary about the struggle to keep Ethnic Studies legal in Arizona and beyond. NYCoRE is co-sponsoring a fundraising film screening and visit from two teachers from Tucson who have started a lawsuit against the state bill aimed at destroying their program.
